Atlético-MG title celebration ends with 7 prisoners and 17 injured

Seven people were arrested in Belo Horizonte and cities in the metropolitan region during the celebrations for the bi-championship of Atlético-MG, which lasted from the night of Thursday (2) until the morning of this Friday (3). Most of the arrests (five) took place in the capital. The other two were in Contagem and Sabará.

According to a balance released by the Military Police, 33 incidents of theft, one of robbery, three of narcotics, three of damages (which may be in public or private property) and one embezzlement were registered during the commemoration in Belo Horizonte.

The balance sheet does not show within which occurrences in the capital the arrests were carried out. In Sabará, he was arrested for shooting a firearm in a public place. The one from Contagem refers to a man who threw a stone at a police car that was triggered by a street fight. A soldier was hit, but he is doing fine.

The Municipality of Belo Horizonte informed that there was no record of depredation of public equipment in the city.

Fans were also injured in the celebrations in the capital of Minas Gerais. According to information from the Fire Department of Minas Gerais, there were 17 calls from 18:00 on Thursday (2), time for the start of the game against Bahia, at Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador, until this Friday morning (3).

Atlético won 3-2, a result that gave the Minas Gerais team the conquest of the Brazilian title two rounds in advance.

The celebration of the triumph in the national dispute, the first in 50 years, was concentrated in the capital of Minas Gerais, in Praça Sete, downtown, and in front of the club’s headquarters, in the Lourdes neighborhood.

Among the calls made by firefighters are victims of blows and blows, sudden illness, ankle sprains, vehicle collisions and two fires in trees.

The firefighters had to intervene in fights between the fans, but in none of the appointments they took anyone to hospitals, due to the dismissal of those involved.

The Municipal Health Department reported that the SAMU (Emergency Medical Care Service) made an appointment this Thursday night in the capital, that of a 29-year-old man. It was not informed which type of assistance was provided.

Fhemig (Hospital Foundation of the State of Minas Gerais), which administers the Hospital de Pronto-Socorro João 23, the largest in Belo Horizonte, reported that some people were admitted to the hospital, but that most cases were not serious.

Also according to Fhemig, there was no significant increase in calls made by João XXIII during the celebrations for the Atlético-MG championship.

Regarding possible victims who may still be hospitalized, the foundation said that it does not pass on information on health status “in respect of the confidentiality of medical records”, according to a note sent to the report.
