Gabriel Martinelli called his Arsenal team-mate Gabriel Jesus a ‘beast’ after the Gunners continued their fantastic start to the season with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Jesus, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City in the summer, made a great start to his Emirates career, scoring his third goal for the Gunners against Villa.
After battling Premier League legend Steven Gerrard, Villa improved after half-time to equalize straight from a Douglas Lewis corner.
However, Arsenal quickly regained the lead, with Martinelli finding space at the far post and sending home a strong Bukayosaka cross.
Martinelli was ‘delighted’ that Arsenal have achieved their fifth successive win and praised former Manchester City striker Jesus.
“I am happy with the match and the result,” Martinelli told BT Sport. “It is a spirit that must be maintained throughout the season.
“We need patience and we deserved to win and take all three points. We always want to score and we conceded the first. We were a bit nervous but we scored again. That’s the mindset we need to have.”
On Jesus’ influence at Arsenal, Martinelli said: “He makes our job very easy. He is a beast. He is everywhere on the pitch, we are very happy with him and he is lucky to be here.”
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, admitted he was “really happy” with his side’s start to the season, but insisted he wasn’t carried away by Arsenal’s 100% record.
“I am very happy with this result,” he said. “It is very difficult to win in this league.
“The first half was probably one of the best we’ve ever played. We could have scored three, four, five alive.”
“In the second half, obviously the match was a fight. It has become a little game of transition, to come to you.
“Without giving them anything really, a corner, we conceded a goal and then the game continued. But the team again responded incredibly well and we deserved to win the game. I think.”
Arsenal will be looking for a six-six win when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
