Graeme Souness has criticized Chelsea’s approach to the transfer market and has questioned the club’s big three signings.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boyle has spent more than £250m in his first transfer window since buying the club from Roman Abramovich.

French defender Wesley Fofana, Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, England striker Raheem Sterling, Spain defender Marc Kukurella and Senegalese center back Kalidou Koulibaly are set to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

But Souness does not think Chelsea have spent wisely and questions the acquisitions of Aubameyang, Fofana and Cucurella.

“The rush and zeal to acquire Chelsea fans has seen Todd Boley spend £300m in the summer transfer window and it looks like he’s doing the work himself,” Suanne told the Daily Mail.

Given that Chelsea already had Marcos Alonso, Ben Chilwell and Rigg James in the same position, the money they spent on Mark Cucurella is pointless unless there is a bottomless pit.

Is the Kukurella much more improved than those? I do not think so. I think Chelsea bought him because Manchester City wanted him.

We understand that with the absence of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva needed a 37-year-old centre-back. One month is the age at which the game falls off a cliff.

But £70m for Wesley Fofana? At 21 years old, he brings only possibilities.

The advantage of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day is that Chelsea have acquired a Premier League scoring striker who is notoriously hard to find.

The downside is that he’s 33 and has some nasty genes in there somewhere. Mikel Arteta has done very well with Arsenal during his tenure as manager, pushing Aubameyang out of the building and seemingly finding an upgrade in Gabriel Jesus.

“If you want to please Aubameyang, you risk doing the same thing Arsenal did to that idiot Mesut Ozil who was sitting on the bench at the time Arsene Wenger gave him the ridiculous raise.

Tuchel was asked about Chelsea’s record spending at Friday’s pre-season news conference.

“You can argue endlessly if we used too much or too much for a player, but the player we got is a very good player and a very good person,” the German coach said.

Everything was needed to rebuild and inspire the band.

“Talking too much about price doesn’t help because we always find people, and when they say it’s too expensive, it can be hard to argue.

“That was the market for us. Maybe we weren’t in the perfect position to always find the right time and the right price.”

“But it’s nobody’s fault. It was because of the circumstances. But it’s all thanks to the players that we trained perfectly. I’m very happy to be working with this group now.”

Chelsea won just two of their first five games of the season before meeting London rival West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
