Roberto Carmona, one of the most important names in Brazilian sports journalism, died this Sunday (4) at the age of 86.
According to information from his family members, Carmona had been hospitalized for spinal surgery and could not resist complications. The journalist leaves four children and eight grandchildren.
Born in Presidente Bernardes, in the interior of São Paulo, Carmona moved to Paraná as a child and arrived in São Paulo in the early 1960s, when he started working at Rádio Record.
The journalist, with more than six decades of career, passed through vehicles such as Globo, Jovem Pan, Gazeta and Bandeirantes. In recent years, he worked at Transamerica FM.
In a note, São Paulo radio highlighted his voice and legacy. “Transamerica’s outstanding voice, Roberto Carmona, a legend of sports journalism and radio history dies”.
The journalist’s death was also mourned by professional colleagues. Milton Neves, presenter of Bandeirantes and columnist for UOL, paid tribute to the journalist: “Grande Carmona, an example of longevity, determination, dedication and education”. Narrator Silvio Luiz wrote that “Sunday ended with the death of colleague Roberto Carmona”.
