An important test match between England and South Africa has been called off as Britain enters a period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The first day of the third and final Test at The Oval was abandoned without the ball being thrown.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that Friday’s match will not be played on Thursday night. They have yet to confirm if the game will resume over the weekend or if testing will be canceled altogether.

The statement said:

“Updates will be provided in the near future for games after Friday.”

ECB President Richard Thompson said: “When I speak about how sad I am to hear the news of the Queen’s death, I trust that I speak for everyone in the game.

He died at his home in Balmoral at the age of 96. His son, Prince Charles, and his daughter, Princess Anne, were at his side.
