She returns to training Elina Jengo, after the short breaths that followed his grueling but highly successful season. The 20-year-old javelin athlete, who won the gold medal in the women’s category in Munich in August, has as her main goal for 2023 the World Championships in Budapest.

“He rested enough, had several obligations to settle, and is now back in training. Every year we start the year with high goals, we will do the same this year. Our priorities are certainly the Open World Championship, but also the U23 European Championshipsaid her coach, Giorgos Botskariov, and added:

“Elina did 14 races in 2022 and that tired her out quite a bit. In 2023 the aim is to do fewer races and focus mainly on strong meetings abroad. The training during this period will take place in Halkidiki, while during the holidays, when the children will have a gap from their university obligations, we will all go to training together. Beyond that, there is a thought to prepare in South Africa in the Spring so that Elina can prepare alongside other groups of javelin throwers».

The other members of the Greek coach’s group have also started their preparations for the new year with high expectations. “Anastasia Dragomirova is aiming for distinction at the U23 European Championship, in her first year in the category, in the composites. Anastasia made good appearances this year, after two years of maintenance due to the leg. From 2022 our attention is focused only on the composite. Our intention is for her to do compound in the winter as well, so that she can have one more race in her legs. Last year she missed the games, after May she managed to find her rhythm” said Botskariov and continued: “Tasos Latiflari and Odysseas Mouzenidis will enter the indoor competition with the aim of participating in the European Championships in Istanbul, while Sofia Kessidis will claim participation and a good presence in the discus throw at the European U23».

Giorgos Botskariov expects the implementation of the construction of a training area for the sportsmen and women of the city, in order to make the training conditions suitable for sportsmen and women of this level:The creation of a throwing training area with two cages for discus and hammer throw, a valve for shot put and a corridor for javelin has been approved and is expected to begin. I believe we will soon have it available».
