For the first time in its history, Greek Boxing wins six medals and 4 fifth places in a Pan-European Championship for Boys and Girls, raising Greece to the highest podium in Europe.
Three Gold Medals, one Silver and two Bronzes were awarded to Greece by our Champions – three, who competed in the Pan European Boys – Girls Championships in Montesilvano, Italy from 25/9 to 5/10, after exciting matches in the ring full of passion, strength, and faith.
The “dance” of the Gold Medals was opened by Anna Maria Triphylli defeating Duman Rabia Eylul from Turkey, filling the Greeks with emotion and pride. Vassilis Topalos and Emmanuel Fotiadis became the Golden “reason” for our National Anthem to be heard again in Italy by writing their names in Golden letters in the Pan-European “book” of Boxing.
In an amazing match where the Greek Soul of our Greek champion Kouzilou Panagiotas shocked everyone, the result in the match against the Czech Jilkova Viktorie may have been the Silver Medal but Panagiotas admittedly deserved the Gold!
Georgopoulou Maria and Dasionaki Marieva gave our country 2 Bronze Medals showing that in Greek Boxing the blue and white gloves when they step into the one-way ring have only victory.
Thomas Borditsopoulos, Konstantinos Sarigiannidis, Giannakopoulou Lambrini and Kantzari Ioanna took 5th place, bringing our country even higher in the final ranking.
The Hellenic Boxing Federation sees its work “bearing fruit” with great results and the president of the EOP, Mr. Haris Mariolis, is absolutely justified when he promised everyone the “blooming” of the sport and the worldwide recognition of Greek athletes. Through the dynamic and talented athletes, Hellenic Boxing takes the lead in the international ring thanks to their systematic work, passion and competitiveness, proving through these distinctions that the future of the sport is auspicious at all levels.
The congratulations for the great distinctions of the athletes of our National Team in the Pan-European Championship for Boys and Girls expressed the president of the Hellenic Boxing Federation, Mr. Haris Mariolis, declaring that he was particularly moved: “Every medal you won was “written” in our hearts. Thank you for making us hear our National Anthem not once but three times and feel more proud and optimistic than ever about the future of Greek boxing.
I am happy and especially moved by your quality as athletes, by your ethos, dynamism, teamwork, stubbornness and passion you showed in the games representing our National colors.
The blue and white gloves write History and the Hellenic Boxing Federation promises you that it will support your every effort, because for me who has the responsibility of this I want you to know that you are my family and my great love.
Warm congratulations to all of you, you filled our hearts with national pride and gave us unique moments. Well done also to our coaches who worked hard and methodically for this great result. I wholeheartedly thank your families who are always by our side and “embrace” our every effort.
Greek Boxing has turned a page, its History is written thanks to you in Golden letters. This is the boxing we deserve. We thank you all”.
