He celebrated his 2nd win of the season – and first after Monaco Sergio Pereswho finished in first place in the Singapore Grand Prix night, which was marked by 6 retirements.
Charles Leclerc finished second with a Ferrariwhile the other Scuderia driver, Carlos Sainz, completed the podium.
The points leader, Max Verstappenfinished just 7th, which means he got… an extension to his crowning as champion for the 2nd year in a row.
The rated ten completed by Lando Norris with McLaren (4th), Daniel Ricciardo with McLaren (5th), Lance Stroll with Aston Martin (6th), Sebastian Vettel with Aston Martin (8th), Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes (9th) and Pierre Gasly with AlphaTauri (10th ).
The Singapore Grand Prix started with an hour’s delay due to heavy rain, which created a different situation in the race, as the track remained wet in several places and forced the teams to choose intermediate tires.
The Mexican driver of Red Bull got off to a better start, overtaking poleman Leclerc at the start and moving into first place, and hasn’t looked back since.
Peres drove masterfully throughout the race, avoiding mistakes and withstood the suffocating pressure of the Monegasque, who stuck behind the 32-year-old but was unable to make a move to overtake him.
With these and with these the Mexican succeeded to face the checkered flag first with 7.5 seconds difference from Leclerc and to ensure that even if he is penalized (he is being investigated for a possible violation of safety car regulations).
Thereafter, Verstappen had a race full of mistakes and finished after hard work and suffering in 7th place, having an unfortunate moment on the 40th lap, when he slipped, with the consequence of going off the track. So the Dutchman will have to wait another week (at least) for his coronation.
It is worth noting that – due to the delays – the race was over at 2 hours and not the 61 rounds that were originally scheduled. It is typical that in two cases there was a Safety Car and in three more Virtual Safety Car, while 6 cars abandoned.
