Ciro Gomes reacts to the PF’s operation, attacks Bolsonaro and speaks of an abusive court order

Presidential Ciro Gomes (PDT) reacted to the Federal Police’s operation this Wednesday (15), attacked President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and spoke of an abusive court order.

“Until this morning, I imagined that we were living, despite all the imperfections, in a democratic country. But after the Federal Police subordinated to Bolsonaro, with an abusive judicial order for search and seizure, came to my house, I have no further doubt that Bolsonaro transformed Brazil into a Police State that hides under a false cover of legality.”

According to Ciro, the operation “so late and unreasonable has the clear objective of trying to create damage” to his pre-candidacy for the presidency. “The arm of Bolsonaro police state, which treats opponents as enemies to be physically destroyed, rises up again against me.”

The Federal Police launched an operation this Wednesday morning (15) against the diversion of public resources in the works of the Castelão stadium, in Ceará.

The PF fulfills 14 search and seizure warrants determined by the Justice, having among the targets the brothers Ciro Gomes, pre-candidate for president, and senator Cid Gomes, both from the PDT.

“The pretext was to collect alleged evidence of an alleged scheme to favor a company in the bidding for the works of the Castelão Stadium for the 2014 World Cup. It was even picturesque,” said Ciro on social networks.

“All of Brazil knows that Castelão was the World Cup stadium with the greatest competition, the first to be delivered and the cheapest built for World Cups since 2002. In other words, it was the most economical and transparent stadium ever built for the World Cup. World.”

“But that’s not it. And let’s be clear. I have no connection with the alleged facts. I have not held any public office related to them. I never had any kind of contact with the whistleblowers. Which, by the way, the whistleblower himself recognizes when he says who never found me. I have 40 years of public life and have never been accused or prosecuted for corruption,” said Ciro.

According to a press release from the PF, the suspicions are of “frauds, demands and payments of bribes to political agents and public servants arising from the bidding process for works” at the stadium, between 2010 and 2013.

Lúcio Gomes, brother of Ciro and Cid, was also searched and apprehended.

Judge Danilo Dias Vasconcelos de Almeida, of the 32 Federal Court of Ceará, ordered the removal of telephone, banking, fiscal and telematic secrecy of the brothers and other targets.

According to the documents, the investigation refers to the payment of bribes to civil servants and political agents of the government of Ceará under the then governor Cid Gomes.

According to the Federal Police, the fraud would have occurred so that Galvão Engenharia was successful in the bidding process to carry out renovations to the stadium. The tender amounted to R$518 million, from BNDES.

There is also a suspicion that, during the contract execution phase, undue advantages were paid to the state government to transfer amounts that were supposedly withheld.

The police say in the representation that there are signs that the bribe was paid many times disguised as electoral donations for Cid Gomes and his brothers Ciro Gomes and Lúcio Gomes.

This Tuesday, in the first IPEC poll after Sergio Moro’s affiliation with Somos and the beginning of the articulations for the ex-judge’s candidacy for Planalto, ex-president Lula (PT) easily leads the voting intentions of the electoral race 2022, followed by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

In the two scenarios analyzed in the IPEC survey, released by GloboNews this Tuesday (14), the PT member has more voting intentions than all other possible candidates combined. This indicates the possibility of Lula’s victory in the first round of the dispute.

In the first scenario of presidential candidates, Lula has 48%, Bolsonaro, 21%, and Moro, 6%, technically tied with Ciro Gomes (PDT), who has 5%. The research margin of error is two percentage points, more or less, with a 95% confidence level.

“Until this morning, I imagined that we lived, despite all the imperfections, in a democratic country.
But after the Federal Police subordinate to Bolsonaro, with an abusive judicial order of search and seizure, came to my house, I have no doubt that Bolsonaro transformed Brazil into a Police State that hides under a false cover of legality.

The pretext was to collect alleged evidence of an alleged scheme to favor a company in the bidding for the works on the Castelão Stadium for the 2014 World Cup.

It gets to be picturesque. All of Brazil knows that Castelão was the World Cup stadium with the greatest competition, the first to be delivered and the cheapest built for World Cups since 2002. In other words, it was the most economical and transparent stadium ever built for the World Cup .

But that’s not it. And let’s be clear. I have no connection with the alleged facts found. I did not hold any public office related to them. I never had any kind of contact with the whistleblowers. Which, by the way, the whistleblower himself recognizes when he says he NEVER found me.

I have 40 years of public life and have never been accused or prosecuted for corruption.
I have no doubt that this so late and unreasonable action has the clear objective of trying to harm my pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic. Likewise, they tried 15 days before the first round of the 2018 election.

The arm of the Bolsonaro police state, which treats opponents as enemies to be physically destroyed, rises up again against me.

I have no doubt that this so late and unreasonable action has the clear objective of trying to intimidate me and stop the denunciations I make every day against this government that is squandering our public assets with corruption schemes on an unprecedented scale.
I have never felt like a citizen above the law, but I cannot passively accept being treated as an under-citizen under the law.

I am a man of struggle, combat and law. This story will not stay that way. I go to the ultimate legal consequences to prosecute those who try to attack me. My enemies have never intimidated me and they will never intimidate me.

NO ONE WILL SHUT MY VOICE”
