The King of Saudi Arabia, Salman Ben Abdel Aziz, declared that this Wednesday (23) will be a national holiday for public and private employees, expatriates and students a day after the national team defeated Argentina by 2-1 in the debut of the World Cup of the World in Qatar.
The information was published on the social networks of the state agency SPA. The holiday, however, does not apply to healthcare workers, armed forces and police, bankers and subcontractors.
The announcement follows a similar action by Cameroon during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, when they defeated Argentina 1-0 (goal by Omam-Biyik) and also declared a public holiday the following day. On that occasion, the Argentine number 10 was Diego Maradona, who had led his team in winning the World Cup four years earlier, in Mexico.
The Saudis’ next match is against Poland, at 10 am (BrasÃlia time) on Saturday (26). A victory already guarantees a place in the round of 16. If they tie, the vacancy gets closer. Even if you lose, the team will still have one more chance of qualifying against Mexico, next Wednesday (30).
