Salvadoran referees Brazil’s second game in the World Cup, against Switzerland

by

Iván Barton, from El Salvador, will referee Brazil’s second game at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Brazilian team will try this Monday (28), at 13h (Brasília time), against Switzerland, their second victory in Group G, after defeating Serbia by 2-0, with two goals by Richarlison.

It is the first Cup for Barton, who is 31 years old and is one of the youngest referees at the World Cup.

He refereed at the Tokyo Olympics, last year, when the Brazilian team, made up mostly of under-23 athletes, won the gold medal.

In Brazil’s debut at the Olympics, against Germany, Barton was on the field, as well as Richarlison, Daniel Alves, Bruno Guimarães and Antony, who are in Tite’s selection in Qatar.

In the 4-2 victory over the Germans, Richarlison scored three of his five goals in the Games.

In the first round of this Cup, Barton played in Germany’s 2-1 defeat, against Japan, one of the surprises of the competition.

In a game without controversial bids, the Salvadoran scored a penalty in favor of Germany (converted by Gundogan) and did not show yellow or red cards.

Barton will be assisted on the field in Brazil v Switzerland by compatriot David Morán and Zachari Zeegelaar, from Suriname – they will be the linesmen.

The VAR (video assistant referee) will be Canadian Drew Fischer.
