German press talks of relief after draw against Spain

The 1-1 draw between Spain and Germany, this Sunday (27), for the second round of Group E of the Qatar World Cup, generated different reactions in the European press. For the Spaniards, the point won at the Al Bayt stadium leaves the team close to the next stage. The Germans, on the other hand, felt relief to avoid an early elimination.

The German newspaper Die Welt highlighted in its headline that “The World Cup is not over for Germany”. With one point, the Germans arrive with a chance in the last round of the group stage, needing to beat Costa Rica and hope for a stumbling block by Japan against Spain.

Bild, on the other hand, focused its report on striker Fullkrug, hero of the equalizing goal. The newspaper recalled that he was in the second division of the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen last season.

“Relief! We’re back in the game thanks to a Werder Bremen striker,” he said.

DW and Kicker magazine also credited the attacker with the game’s hero title in their respective headlines.

In Spain, the newspapers highlighted that the point conquered was of good size to leave the Spanish selection closer to the vacancy for the next phase.

Marca, Mundo Deportivo and Diário As did the math and announced that there is one point left for the round of 16.
