Lacked a bit of confidence, says Luis Enrique after draw with Germany

The coach of Spain, Luis Enrique, was happy after the 1-1 draw with Germany this Sunday (27), in Group E of the World Cup in Qatar, but regretted that his team did not have enough confidence to achieve the victory.

“I saw a better first half, but I think that throughout the game we lacked a little confidence to realize that we could attack Germany”, declared the coach to the TVE channel.

“From 1-0 they went into ‘all or nothing’ game mode and we could have controlled the match. A game started back and forth and we were caught in an error on an outing,” he added.

Luis Enrique was satisfied that his team “competed with Germany at the highest level, moving forward, being ambitious from the beginning until the end”, but he added: “The mistake is in the ball passing. We had a mistake that we usually don’t make. But football is a game of mistakes. You try not to make them, but that’s football.”

With the result, Spain remained at the top of the group with four points, against three from Japan and Costa Rica and one from Germany. In the last round, Roja faces the Japanese to confirm the classification for the round of 16.

“Although the draw helps us, we’re going to try to win our game and try to go first in the group”, projected Luis Enrique.

“We are leaders. Maximum confidence in what we do and how we do it”, he concluded.
