President Unix: “Perasovic is not afraid of Olympiacos, we are friends with Prifti”

A revealing interview was given to the Russian press by Mr. Evgeny Bogachev.

For the change of coach in the summer: «In the summer we changed the coach, as Dimitris Priftis left. It was four years and our team made progress, with his work. I believe that through our team he showed his coaching value. His contract had the option of termination. He had the right to pay some money and go to another team. He wanted to be close to his family and home, so he used the option and went to Panathinaikos. We have maintained friendly relations with him. He is a good coach and very smart. Practically ταν he slept on the field».

For the selection of Velimir Perasovic: «Perasovic was a great player. He played for the Yugoslav national team and became the top scorer in the Spanish league. Also, Perasovic knows the Euroleague very well as a coach. He has worked in Anadolu Efes, Valencia and Basconia, while he has also gone to the Final Four. With this experience, he can work calmer. He is not afraid of anyone, neither Olympiakos, nor Real Madrid».

On whether he was worried about Unix’s mediocre start to the season: «Not at all. You know I’m not in favor of changing coaches during the season. I did this once, with Argyris Pedoulakis. A good Greek coach, but who did not know English. He failed to bond with the team and so his contract was terminated in November. In general, I believe that when a team changes coach during the season, it does not gain anything in the end».

To acquire Mario Hezonia: «The coach helped us. She had worked with him in the Croatian national team and she also knows his father. When Perasovic signed, I told him to bring us Croats, who are good players. Many worried that Hezonia would receive special treatment from Perasovic. But, his coach behaves like everyone else. For the data of our team, Hezonia’s contract is high. But, for the Euroleague data it is not so high. Our budget is the same as last year. In general, this has not changed in the last five years».
