I’m ready to be a starter for the national team, says Rodrygo to Ronaldo Fenômeno

Put on the field by Tite in place of Lucas Paquetá in the second half, Rodrygo changed the face of the Brazilian team and proved decisive in the 1-0 victory against Switzerland that qualified Brazil for the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar with a round of before.

Fast and active, Rodrygo, 21, helped to open spaces in the Swiss defense, giving the team conditions to create more chances. More than that, he assisted Casemiro, a former Real Madrid teammate, to score the goal of the game.

There was speculation that the ex-Santos player would start playing the match – it would be his first as a starter for the main team, since in the previous eight, in which he scored a goal, he entered the course of the game.

After the victory at stadium 974, in Doha, the number 21 met with Brazil’s top scorer in World Cups (15 goals), Ronaldo, and gave an interview to Fenômeno.

Excited by the performance of his interlocutor, Ronaldo, hero in winning the fifth world championship in 2022, wanted to know: “When will you get that starting job?”.

“I’m ready,” replied Rodrygo. “We are there, and when the teacher [Tite] If you want, if it’s in the next game or after, I’m available. I’m training, preparing, it’s a World Cup, so any moment the opportunity will come.”

The two exchanged ideas on a few other subjects, such as the poor condition of the pitch in the match and Neymar’s injury, and towards the end of the conversation Ronaldo insisted on the topic of starting.

🇧🇷[Com o Brasil] already ranked, you should have a chance to [ser] starter in the next game. Do you think this could be your chance to establish yourself as a starter?”

“It could be so. As I said, I’m prepared. If I have the opportunity to leave [como] starting the next game, I’m prepared, mentally, to play and do things well”, declared Rodrygo.

Brazil faces Cameroon on Friday (2), at 4 pm (Brasília time), ending its participation in Group G.

With a draw, they will be the champion of the group, facing in the round of 16 the second place in Group H, which has Portugal, Ghana, South Korea and Uruguay.

Until now, Tite has not given any clue as to which team he will take to the field, whether with Rodrygo or without him, whether with full strength or not. Neymar, Danilo and Alex Sandro are out for sure, injured.
