At the same time, with the total of 11 medals that Greece won in the four days of the games at the European Boys-Girls Taekwondo Championship, namely two gold, four silver and five bronze, it broke the previous record it held from last year in Estonia with seven, highlighting, for yet another event, the great “leaven” of young sportsmen and women who exist throughout the Greek territory and who will form the basis for even greater successes in the future at the level of men and women.

In the final of the championship, Greece needed only one medal for the new record, but the boys who entered the “battle” of the distinction today made sure to “shoot” the tally to four and nine in total (two were won by the girls on Sunday) in organization.

Christos Bakalexis won the silver medal in the -45 kg category, while Dimitrios Mitsos, Marios-Leonidas Papaioannou and Konstantinos Tsagournos came in third place in the -57, -53 and -37 kg respectively.

Bakalexis, a few months after his participation in the Sofia World Championship, with three consecutive victories reached the -45 kg final, where, although he led the score with a 1-0 set, he lost the gold in the details (1-2 ), taking second place.

At -53 kg, Marios-Leonidas Papanikolaou scored two wins in three matches, losing his qualification to the semi-finals to the Italian Rosato with a score of 2-1. The latter in the quarter-finals also defeated Apostolos Panagopoulos, who also, with two wins in three matches, took fifth place in the final ranking.

Konstantinos Tsagouros was on the threshold of the final at -37 kg. He reached the top four with two consecutive victories, but there, however, he was defeated 2-0 by Azero Hatamli, finishing third, as did Dimitrios Mitsos at -57 kg.

The Greek champion, who also participated in the World Championship a few months ago, scored two wins until the semi-finals, where he lost to Serbian Klajic 2-0. Furthermore, the Municipality of Pistola reached the quarter-finals of the -65 kg category, finally taking fifth place.
