France’s 2-0 triumph over Morocco in the 2022 World Cup semifinals brought together 20.69 million viewers who followed the match on the French television network TF1 on Wednesday night (14).
The mark is a new audience record, according to Médiamétrie data published this Thursday (15). In total, more than 66% of spectators in France followed the duel between the ‘Bleus’ and the ‘Lions of the Atlas’.
It is an audience record for a World Cup since 2006, which peaked at 23.3 million viewers, according to the TF1 group.
The audience approaches, but does not surpass, the record registered by M6 during the Euro 2016 final between France and Portugal, which brought together 20.8 million viewers.
The TF1 channel, the only one in France that broadcasts the World Cup openly, had already recorded 17.7 million viewers in France’s 2-1 victory over England, in the quarterfinals.
In the round of 16 match between France and Poland, 14.3 million people gathered in front of the television.
The 2022 World Cup final will see Kylian Mbappé’s ‘Bleus’ face Lionel Messi’s Argentina on Sunday at 12h. The winner will win the third championship.
