The Argentine national team is greeted by crowds at Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires

The Argentine national team, champion of the 2022 World Cup, landed at Ezeiza International Airport, in Buenos Aires this Tuesday (20) around 2:20 am (Brasília time). Around the airport, thousands of people were waiting for the arrival of the players, who boarded an open bus to the training center of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), where they rest for a few hours until the party with the fans, scheduled for 12h, in the Obelisk Square, in the center of the capital.

A day after winning the third championship with the victory over France, the World Cup trophy returns to Argentina, ending a 36-year absence from Alviceleste.

The atmosphere of celebration upon the arrival of the players took over the surroundings of the airport, with the crowd that traveled from all over Greater Buenos Aires willing to see, even if from afar, the team that defended the country’s colors. La Mosca’s hit was on the lips of the fans, who held flags, shirts, replicas of the Cup and other symbols of their passion for football.

As soon as the aircraft taxis, Lionel Messi appears – with the trophy in hand and the shiny medal on his chest, over his dark blue uniform – and Lionel Scaloni, the coach who led the team in Qatar and became champion at the age of 44. Then, the players disembark, some wearing the white uniform, others, with the light blue shirt and the team’s mantle.

Around 3am, the open bus began moving slowly through the streets filled with crowds of supporters.

The Argentine government declared a national holiday on Tuesday (20) so that the people can follow the selection and celebrate the world title. Local authorities estimate an even greater movement than that of last Sunday in the Obelisk area, right after the victory game, when more than a million people gathered in Praça da República to celebrate.
