Police look for Vinicius Junior’s aggressors on traffic cameras

by

The police are trying to identify on traffic cameras the fans who hung a black doll with the player Vinicius Junior’s shirt by the neck on a bridge in Madrid, last Thursday (26). Clues are also sought in videos posted on social media.

The information was disclosed at a meeting this Monday morning (30) at the Public Ministry, in which 14 representatives of various Spanish institutions discussed means to contain and punish “violent, racist, xenophobic and intolerant conduct that is frequently manifested in the sports stadiums”.

In a note distributed after the extraordinary meeting, the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance, linked to the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain, announced that Vinicius Junior’s case transcends the administrative field and enters the criminal field.

It was the first time that the commission met in the Public Ministry building in Madrid. There were two reasons for this. First, the judiciary wanted to give greater visibility to the case. The Spanish press, despite reporting it, paid more attention to the game that Real Madrid played that day than to the hanged dummy.

At the time, Real Madrid released a statement in which it stated that “facts like this are absolutely repugnant and inadmissible and embarrass society.”

Vinicius Junior has faced constant racist attacks by opposing fans in Spain. Last September, in a match against Alético de Madrid, the Brazilian was forced to hear the opposing crowd calling him a “monkey”.

“All these people who are racist have to pay in some way. May the Atlético fans who did this never be able to enter a stadium again”, said the player at the time. Nothing, however, happened.

Also at this Monday’s meeting, according to officials, the MP, called Fiscalía General del Estado, considers that there has been an increase in demonstrations of hatred and wants to monitor the matter more closely.

The organization also announced that it will punish Real Valladolid fans who used racist insults against Vinícius Júnior in a Spanish Championship game played on December 30.

The police continue to collect data to propose punishments, which due to their severity will be associated with fines of 4,000 euros (R$ 22,000) and a ban on access to sports venues for a period of one year for each of those identified.

The organization of the Spanish Championship filed a complaint in the courts of Valladolid for these insults, providing “the audiovisual evidence collected in the investigation made through images and sounds published in open sources”.
