OPAP Arena: A 38-year-old man was arrested for car burglaries on the days when AEK was playing

The Greek police arrested a 38-year-old foreigner. According to the relevant information, the man in question was carrying out thefts and break-ins in the parked cars around its perimeter OPAP Arena during the days of AEK matches. In fact, his participation in seven related cases was identified.

The arrest was made before the confrontation between the “Union” and Mars last Sunday (29/1), with the 38-year-old also having an accomplice.

He was arrested, in the afternoon hours of 1-29-2023 in New Philadelphia, by police officers of the Security Department of New Philadelphia-New Chalkidona, a 38-year-old man for unfaithfulness, violence against employees and theft by following and by complicity.

In the context of investigating recorded cases of break-ins-thefts from parked cars in the vicinity of the “OPAP ARENA” stadium during matches in the last quarter, the above police officers were patrolling in the vicinity of the stadium in the afternoon hours of 29-1-2023, before the start of the football match (AEK – ARIS).

After searches, they considered two people on foot suspicious and called them for a check, with the people fleeing. Above, policemen followed them and stopped one of them (a 38-year-old foreigner) nearby.

The 38-year-old tried to thwart his commitment by pushing the policeman away, resisting vigorously.

As it emerged from the investigation, in terms of the method of action, the 38-year-old together with another perpetrator broke into a car, breaking the door window with a sharp object, gaining access to its interior. They then removed electronic devices and personal belongings.

From the combined evaluation of information data and evidence, the 38-year-old was identified as involved in (7) cases of burglaries-thefts from parked cars in New Philadelphia a short distance from the stadium on game days.

The accused has been arrested in the past for similar offences.

The arrested person was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens”.
