Mônica Bergamo: Lawyers demand sanctions against Wallace after publication about shooting Lula

by

The Prerogativas group sent to the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) for volleyball, to the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), to the Minas Gerais Volleyball Federation and to the presidency of the Sada Cruzeiro club a report of a sporting offense against volleyball player Wallace Souza.

Through a profile on social networks, the athlete made a poll asking if “someone would shoot a 12 in the face of [presidente] Lula [PT]”. Souza deleted the post and later apologized.

The infraction notice sent by Prerogativas to the entities states that the player would have encouraged “the assassination of the President of the Republic” and that his act violates freedom of expression.

“The communicative capacity of those who encourage abominable acts in social life must be taken into account, even more so in cases of influencers who have achieved such status thanks to sport”, says the piece. “It is necessary to request a sanction consistent with the seriousness of the sporting community”, she continues.

Made up of lawyers, jurists and defenders, Prerogativas was notable for its opposition to Operation Lava Jato and Lula’s arrest. Currently, some of its staff hold positions in the federal government.

For the group, the punishment of Wallace Souza is necessary to “keep the sport free from foments of hate that are globally repugnant and that harm the foundations of the Brazilian constitutional order”.

The Prerogatives also asks that, in addition to the application of immediate sanctions by the entities, the STJD opens its own process.

Regarding Wallace’s attitude, the CBV said this Tuesday (31) that “it repudiates any type of violence or incitement to violent acts and understands that sport is a tool for propagating values such as respect, tolerance and equality”.

After the repercussions, the board of the club Sada Cruzeiro announced the removal and indefinite suspension of the player in the team.

Wallace, who never hid being a supporter of Bolsonaro (PL), made a series of publications in which he appeared in a shooting club, on Monday (30). Before publishing the poll about the President of the Republic, he shared a photo holding a gun.

This Tuesday, he posted a video admitting he made a mistake and apologized. “Anyone who knows me knows very well that I would never incite violence under any circumstances, against anyone and especially our president.”
