Aris: Goodwin’s 13 offensive rebounds are a historical record

by

THE Chevez Goodwin tied for the second most in Basketball League history with his 13 offensive rebounds in the victory against AEK (74-64)but also the best in its history Mars.

The American center set a 21-year-old record and fell one offensive rebound shy of the career league record for most rebounds shared, with 14, by Walter Berry from 1994-95 (Heracles-AEK), Ian Lockhart from 1995-96 (Larissa-Ampelokipoi) and Ben Hadlogden from the 2002-03 season (Macedonian-Panathinaikos).

Goodwin’s 13 offensive rebounds, however, in addition to being the second most in Basketball League history, are the most in the history of the Mars in it. The 25-year-old center surpassed Harold Ellis’ mark of 12 offensive rebounds twice in the 1995-96 season, away against Apollon Patras and at home against Papagou.

This is of course the best performance this year since the previous best was the eight offensive rebounds that Savion Flagg had in the 1st game and Ismael Sanogo in the 7th game.

Goodwin finished yesterday’s derby with 19 rebounds, a performance that for Aris exceeds the narrow limits of this season as it is a record of almost 22 years. The last player of the “yellow and black” who had such a performance was James Forrest who also collected 19 rebounds on April 21, 2001 and in the home game against Milos. Goodwin’s performance was the 8th 19+ rebound performance in Mars history.

The 19 rebounds of the Aris center equal this year’s top performance, since Dade Hawkins also had as many in the Ionikos game against PAOK mateco in the first round.

Along with his 19 rebounds, the American also had 16 points, reaching five double-doubles and being the leader of the relevant list together with AEK’s Mitchell.

Otherwise for Mars…

*Josh Huggins had another productive appearance (12p, 4p, 7as, 4cl.) and with the seven assists he distributed, he entered the top 25 of Aris’ foreign passers in the Basket League. He reached 68 and 25th place Spencer Nelson who wore the yellow and black in the 2008-09 season.

Huggins set a new career record in the Greek Basket League with his four steals. Before yesterday’s game he reached three steals four times, two in this season and two in the 2020-21 season with Iraklis. At the same time, the American guard recorded his best performance this year in rebounds with the four he collected.

The American guard did for one more game, an excellent job in the “economy” since in addition to the seven assists he distributed and the four steals he made, he was left with two errors. Thus he reached for the fourth time a performance of 9+ in the “economy” which only Thomas Walkup and Sylvain Francisco still did.

*Homeris Netzipoglou was very effective from the three-point line yesterday, finishing the game 4/4. In this season, he did not exceed two well-targeted three-pointers, while this is also the best performance of his career in the Basket League, since in the corresponding last year’s game (Aris-AEK 91-73) he had 3/4 three-pointers.

At the same time, the international guard scored the only performance of absolute accuracy in three-pointers, in at least four attempts, among the players who remained flawless statistically. The previous record was held by Michalis Lountzis who had 6/8 in the Olympiacos-Lavrio Megabolt game and Alec Peters who had 3/4 in the Olympiacos-Apollon Carna game with 75% in three-pointers and “0” in errors.

*Vassilis Toliopoulos didn’t have a good night, finishing the game on 0-of-8 shooting from the field, 0-of-6 of which were 3-pointers, in the fourth-zero shooting performance from the perimeter among players who made at least six attempts. The negative record has been held by Travis Simpson since the 5th matchday with 0/7 three-pointers in Prometheus’ match against Panathinaikos.
