Opinion – PVC: Brazil discovered Carlo Ancelotti late

by

Carlo Ancelotti is 63 years old, has been a coach for 28 years and won his first Champions League 20 years ago. Tite pointed him out as a reference six years ago, for his ability to put together teams according to the squad.

Kaka named him the best coach he’s worked with for 15 years! Ancelotti was English champion, at the time with the best attack of all time, he is the only one to win the five big leagues in Europe, he lifted cups for PSG, Bayern and Real Madrid with the best attack and defense less leaked, with Milan without any of the two poles as a highlight.

It’s brilliant for being simple. He’s not an innovator like Guardiola, he’s not aggressive in pressing pressure like Klopp, he’s not a revolutionary like Cruyff.

Its merit is that of being a sponge, consuming information, adapting it to what it knew as a player, drinking from different sources. He was coached by Arrigo Sacchi, the most revolutionary coach of the 1980s, along with Cruyff, and yet he doesn’t use all of his teachings.

Nor does he despise them.

He does politics, to the point of mentioning Silvio Berlusconi and Florentino Pérez in the post-world title interview against Al Hilal.

It is said that, in 2021, when he looked decadent in the direction of Everton, tenth in the English Championship, he was consulted by a Real Madrid leader about a possible successor to Zidane. He stated: “Myself!”.

He was hired and did not disappoint. Vinicius Junior improved under him, Rodrygo was decisive, Benzema became the protagonist of a Champions League campaign, as it was not with Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Brazilian revolution does not depend on Ancelotti and it would be more transformative if Guardiola came. But the change that Brazil needs comes from the part of the press that discovered, just after the World Cup, that Ancelotti won titles in Italy, England, France, Germany and Spain, in that order.

It comes down to respect for the stages of work, for not waiting for Ancelotti to put together his first team to call him a back runner, as he used to be when he was in charge of Milan.

His Christmas tree system had Kaká and Seedorf, two midfielders just behind Filippo Inzaghi, the only striker, after Shevchenko’s sale to Chelsea. It was only unanimous after winning the Champions League, in a final against Liverpool, in Athens.

Two years earlier, he lost to the same Liverpool, in Istanbul, after going 3-0. The blame was pointed at him.

Ancelotti’s greatest wisdom is not to show that he can leave Real Madrid and go live in Rio de Janeiro, to continue the work – and the balance– that the team had with Tite. Ancelotti is good name. Nothing more than that.

If the negotiations move forward and he takes over the national team, he will not be the first foreigner, even considering that Argentine Filpo Núñez has only sat on the selection bench once. The Uruguayan Ramón Platero was the coach in the 1925 Sudamericana.

It is unbelievable to realize that Ancelotti is exalted by those who condemned Tite, without realizing that the Real Madrid coach was the inspiration of the former coach of the national team in the last two World Cups.

Ancelotti is good. Hiring will be positive, if it happens. But he can’t just be the coach. We, the press, managers and fans, need to change if we really want something to change.

Ron on the attack

Abel Ferreira changed five pieces in Palmeiras’ victory over Água Santa, and that was the way to get Endrick out, without seeming to punish the revelation. Also because Endrick doesn’t deserve punishment. Growing up hurts, and he’s growing with every goalless game. Giovani became the fan favorite. Palmeiras needs both.

Said the Corinthian waiter at the restaurant, in São Paulo: “If Flamengo wasn’t champion with Jesus, will it be with that Judas over there?”. It’s not Judas, and grace doesn’t exclude giving Vítor Pereira a chance to continue his work after third place at the Worlds. If you try to undo the offensive quartet, you may lose quality.
