In a game where everything went his way… tremendously better than even his most optimistic friend could have expected, OFI took a huge and even comfortable “double” in Lamia (1-4)having even cleaned up the game from the first half with Dabrauskas stamp!
After this result for the 22nd matchday of the Stoiximan Super League, the Heraklion team climbed to 9th place with 23 points and escaped for good with the stay case, while on the other hand the Fthiotoi of Savvas Pantelidis, remained at the bottom of the standings with only 12.
In the minds of the coaches:
Savvas Pantelidis chose the 3-4-3 for Lamia, with Saranov classically under the posts and Tzanetopoulos, Cornezos, Pavlavets in the center of the defense. In fours in front of them are Simon, Slivka, Tzandaris and Abada, from left to right. At the extremes were Martinez and Romanic, while at the top was Vergos.
On the other hand, Valdas Dabrauskas started with 3-4-2-1, Mandas in goal and Diamantis, Pasalidis, Vouros trio in defense. Balogiannis and Larson took over the left and right sides respectively, while further inside the axis were Diouche and Meyado. The role of the organizer was played by Bakics, while Toral and Groning were promoted.
The match
In the first phase created in the game, OFI managed to be effective and make it 0-1 in just 8′! In particular, Bakic made a beautiful pass in the area and the Spaniard, with a pass on the move, beat Saranov, who couldn’t do anything where the ball went! Lamia called for a foul at the start of the phase, VAR checked the phase and the goal counted as normal. Things changed even more for the hosts, since in the 19th minute Pavlavets was forced to change, with Pantelidis changing the system.

Larson in the 31st minute could have doubled the Cretans’ goals, but he was too late, with the Fthiots losing a terrible opportunity as Martinez’s shot from the height of the penalty found the bodies and instead of going in, it went for a corner. Pantelidis’ team may have been suffocating, losing successive phases, but the Heraklionites smiled again for 0-2 in the 43′! After Larsson’s incredible ball into the back of the Lamia defence, the Montenegrin let the ball slip once and easily beat Saranov from close range. At 45+2′, Lamia called for a handball penalty, but the VAR ordered the match to continue.

Lamia entered the second half with … forwards and the entry of Nunes to help with that. In the 51st minute, Romanic committed a direct foul, with the ball barely going over Manda’s crossbar. Tsiloulis took the pass in the area in the 55th minute, controlled it but his strong shot did not find the target even though he had space. In the 56th minute, Martinez made a beautiful effort, after avoiding two opponents, but his shot stopped in the arms of Mandas. In the 61st minute, Duce made sure to… end the match, after making it 0-3. The Senegalese took an incredible shot from several meters outside the area, with Saranov trying but unable to clear the ball!

From there on the game was a completely standard procedure, with OFI having tremendous opportunities to increase the score. In particular, Saranov took out the header of the all-alone Pasalidis from the heart of the area, while then, he pulled off an incredible four-a-four with Felipe and saved his team in the 77th minute! With the Fthiots simply surrendering, the game seemed to have one more goal and the Cretans found it! After Thorarinsson’s cross, Felipe brought the ball down in the area and calmly scored in the 84th minute! The supervisor raised the flag for offside, but the VAR counted the goal, with Tsiloulis at 90+5′ making the surprise and scoring the goal of honor that made the final 1-4!

MVP: The one who helped to “clean up” OFI early on is Marko Bakic. Montenegro had a goal and an assist from the first half, and if we had to put anyone else in that category, it would probably be Valdas Dabrauskas
who gave a recital.
The “whistle”: He didn’t have a generally difficult match as the score went, so things were easy. No one can fault him and in general his refereeing can be described as good.
Referees: Gamaris (Buxbaum, Pagourtzis, 4th Perrakis, VAR: Fotias, Fotopoulos)
