Lykogiannis: “We made many mistakes, there is no excuse”

THE Aris Lykogiannis gave his congratulations to Pigeon bwin admitting that he won fair and square, stressing that his players’ mistakes were too much for him to claim PAOK the game.

For the match: “Congratulations to Peristeri for their qualification and fair victory. There was a certain momentum that affected us a lot more than it should have. We started with a lot of energy, mainly in defence, we built a gap, we tried to freshen up some key players but instead of ending the quarter in front, we closed it back. This affected us a lot mentally, we lost our minds completely and this, combined with the fact that our key players had a bad day, did not allow us to get back into the match. When we could put pressure, we made mistakes or played a bad defense. So Peristeri had the psychology and the momentum until the end. Franke’s minutes showed he wasn’t having a good day, and neither was Hunts.

The pressure fell heavily on Riley, who started very well but lacked the same consistency. We would have expected more help from some guys off the bench as well, but we didn’t get it. We made too many mistakes, unwarranted relaxation of certain players. When you get the ball down and get robbed three times, there’s no excuse. It was clear that we had quite a few guys who were below average today. I insist that the way the first quarter ended does not justify the image that existed in the match for eight minutes and that affected us a lot.”
