Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 this Saturday morning (1st), in London. As a result, Pep Guardiola’s team, the isolated leader of the Premier League, reached 53 points, 12 ahead of Chelsea, second-placed, who have a game in hand.

The team from the north of England also reached the mark of 11 straight victories in the competition. The last time they lost was on October 30th, to Crystal Palace, 2-0.

This Saturday, Arsenal took the lead, 30 minutes into the first half, with Saka, after assisting Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli.

Mahrez tied the match after converting a penalty, scored only after consulting the VAR, at 11 minutes into the second half.

In stoppage time, at 47, Rodri turned the game around. De Bruyne crossed in the area and Arsenal’s defense managed to stop Laporte’s submission, but the ball was left for the Spaniard to send into the net.

As is characteristic of Pep Guardiola’s teams, City stayed much longer with the ball –71% to 29%– and submitted more than twice as many times as the rival (15 to 7). He also exchanged 632 passes, against 247 for the London team.

Arsenal, however, which is in a good phase – there were four straight victories in English until this Saturday – did not play badly, and had chances to score more goals, one of them with Gabriel Martinelli, who missed a finishing with an empty goal. The expulsion of another Brazilian, Gabriel Magalhães, however, at 15 minutes into the second half, made the match lean even more towards the Manchester team.

City’s next match in English is against runners-up Chelsea, at home, on the 15th. Arsenal, fourth in the competition with 35 points, visit rival Tottenham the next day.

Before, however, they have a commitment for the semifinals of the League Cup, against Liverpool, on the 6th and 13th. City has already been eliminated from this competition.
