The vast majority of French citizens, specifically 82%, consider ticket prices for the Olympic Games, which will be hosted in 2024 in Paris, to be unaffordable. This results from the polls, published today (5/3) and according to which, 79% of French people believe that obtaining places for the Olympic Games is not easy, as far as the procedures are concerned.
This Odoxa research, carried out for Winamax and RTL, was published two weeks after the launch of the first phase of sales of three million tickets per package (minimum of three tickets and maximum of 30), which has been heavily criticized for its complexity and the prices charged.
And while on March 14, there will be just 500 days left before the start of the 2024 Olympic Games (July 26-August 11), French support for the event remains strong, as 69% consider it positive that the Olympic Games will take place in Paris, a percentage reduced by 5%, compared to October 2021.
The majority of respondents (64%) believe that these Olympic Games will create economic opportunities for France, but also at a rate of 64%, they do not trust the organizers to control the costs of this event and balance the budget between expenditure and income, in a context of intense concern about “galloping” inflation.
Finally, 72% of the French believe that Russian athletes, who have been banned from the international scene after the invasion of Ukraine, should be able to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games, wearing the colors of Russia (28%) or with neutral flag (44%), as proposed at the end of January by the International Olympic Committee.
This survey was carried out on the first two days of March, with a sample of 1,005 people aged 18 and over, representative of the French population and with a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.
