Potcheko: “I spoke with Giannakopoulos, I didn’t come to Panathinaikos for family reasons”

by

Before the Christos Serelis take him over Panathinaikosmany names were heard as possible replacements for Dejan Radonić on the “green” bench.

One of them was his Gianmarco Pocecocurrent coach of the Italian national team, who, speaking to NOVA’s camera, confirmed that he had been in contact with Dimitris Giannakopouloswhile highlighting the reasons why the “marriage” never took place.

In detail what he said to the NOVA camera:

On whether Panathinaikos approached him:

“First of all, I’m very proud. Panathinaikos is one of the best clubs in Europe. When I was a player and I was playing in Fortitudo I was beaten many times. Of course I have huge respect for this club. To tell the truth, Giannakopoulos called me and we had 30 amazing minutes of communication on the phone, but it was kind of… in the middle. Anyone could understand me… I am a father. Ten days ago my wife gave birth to our child and it was not easy. And of course I have great respect for Radonic. He’s done a great job in whatever team he’s been in before.”

On whether he would like to take over Panathinaikos:

“You know, every player and coach has his own style. And for me it is very important, it helps me and the passion follows me. Being the coach of a team with a large audience is definitely something amazing. You never know in life… Maybe in the future. I want to say a big thank you to Mr. Giannakopoulos because he spent 30 awesome minutes on the phone and sent me a message about my baby, which I didn’t receive. If you get the message, send it to me too.”
