by

Panagiotis Gionis’ next opponent in the Singapore Smash tournament, which has been ongoing since Tuesday 03/07, comes from a leading force in world table tennis.

Our champion had a day off yesterday Wednesday, put the weight on the training and very early today 09/03 in the morning Greek time he faces the German Kay Stuber.

The match is for the 2nd qualifying round of the men’s singles, it starts at 06:20 Greek (12:20 local) and will be broadcast live from table 3 on link. Gionis (number 91 this week in the world ranking) moved to the “32” by eliminating with 3-2 sets the Ukrainian Yaroslav Zmudenko, 2nd favorite in the qualifying board and now he faces an excellent young athlete (number 142 in the ranking list) with the aim to go to the “16” and the decisive match for qualification to the main draw of the competition.

Gionis had premiered yesterday Tuesday at the Singapore Smash, but his opponent in the 2nd round would come out today, Wednesday. Stuber was favorite against Marcos Madrid from Mexico and confirmed it with a 3-0 set score to advance to the “32” of the qualifiers (11-7, 11-7, 11-6).

At the age of 21, he is German and in 2021 in Croatia he was crowned European champion in the singles for teenagers. He is not yet among the first names of his homeland, but he is steadily developing, extremely dangerous and certainly the experienced Greek defender will have to enlist quality and experience to reach victory. Above the base of the table are the Czech Tomas Polanski and the Indian Sehit Suravadjula and if Gionis advances to the next round then he will face the winner of the match between them.
