Tame the Lions in London and Prometheus is full for advantage

A great victory was won by Prometheus over the Lions in London with 93-89 for the 16th matchday of the Eurocup. Patrinoi reached 10 victories and if they win next Wednesday at “D. Tofalos” in Paris they embrace it home advantage in the first round of the knockouts. Now they are tied at 10-6 with the French, who had won in Paris.

Great performance by Anthony Cowanwho had 26 points and 11 assists, the contribution from Arnoldas Culboca (14p.) and Joe Thomason (13p.). Tomislav Zubcic with 24 points and 9 rebounds stood out from the hosts who fell to 7-9 and are seventh.

The match


The start of the Patrinas in the match was sluggish. Decker and Zubcic did what they wanted to make it 25-15 with 1:11 left in the first period. Prometheus improved significantly after that as they became more solid defensively and with Cowan starting to come forward they tied the game, 27-27, in the first two minutes of the second period. The Taylor-led Lions pulled away again, 42-33, but Cowan and Kulboka saw to it that Prometheus came back, 46-46, before 50-48 at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the team of Yannis Christopoulos. With a 15-0 run they turned 57-56 into 57-71 laying a solid foundation for the win. Big shots from Dangubic and Cowan kept the visitors at bay in the fourth quarter, with the difference at +11, 74-85, with 5:11 left. The Londoners pressed and got closer to the basket, 89-91, with 15” left, but Thomason with his composure on the shots “sealed” the victory.
