The value of Volos’ participation in the Stoiximan Super League playoffs and the difficult away match against Panathinaikos was discussed by Kostas Bratsos.
The coach of the Magnesia team, in an interview he granted to a television station in Thessaly, commented among other things on his team’s course this year while also focusing on the points that determined its entry into the top six.
In detail what he said:
On whether Volos was benefited by the interruption of the championship due to the matches of the National Teams: “All the games are of a high standard, with high demands on our team, against historic and excellent opponents. This gives us psychology, that we can participate at this level. Regarding the break in the league, it helped us to assemble as a team and to be able to progressively integrate those players who had some injury problems.”.
For the defeat against Olympiakos: “When you concede three goals something is wrong. Our image in the possession game was pretty good. However, if we divide the game into two stages, that of possession and that of static phases, we did not do well in the second stage. We conceded three goals from set pieces. We paid for these mistakes and they kept our morale low. On the contrary, they kept the opponent’s psychology high in the progress and development of the match. I mean by that, if we didn’t concede the quick goals, maybe Olympiacos would have been forced to make more naive and more intense attacks and we would have found more space at the back. With the quick goal in the 7th minute, the spaces we requested for the attack did not exist. This event also determined the course of the match”.
Regarding the match against Panathinaikos: “Our opponents treat us as equals and that honors us as a team. This is what we want too, not to be underestimated. It shows some progress, in terms of the development of this club. We know the difficulty of the game with Panathinaikos, but the experience is there and we will do our best to get the best we can out of the game. What I wish is to have the footballers healthy”.
For the course of Volos: “Many times the statistics tell the truth and that is the beauty of football. It is not always the best who wins and triumphs, in terms of achieving the goal, the richest and the one who has the most purchasing power. We should be proud of these footballers, because they brought out quality on the pitch, which brought them to be among the six best teams in Greece. This also shows the way, because sometimes the money is not enough for a team to star. Other things are needed to achieve your goals”.
