Lucescu: “AEK’s goal was normal, I don’t understand the referee’s decision”!

by

Razvan Lucescu commented on the controversial phases of PAOK’s derby with AEK at the press conference after the match.

The Romanian coach emphasized that AEK’s goal should not have been disallowed and spoke of a foul on Augustus before the winning goal of the “yellow and black”

I can’t say that PAOK played better in today’s game and we could have avoided the goal situation. It was a strange game, with strange situations, strange decisions. An AEK goal that I don’t understand why it was disallowed, a normal goal that I don’t understand what was whistled. After a foul leading 1-0 in Augusto I don’t understand why it wasn’t whistled. We faced a team that wasn’t perfect. It was a match we didn’t deserve to win, we didn’t deserve to lose. We made several plays in the flow of the game, in conclusion we can say that it was a strange game that we could not have lost if we had evaluated some situations differently“, he initially reported.

For the fact that AEK entered more decisively: “What did determination give them? It was a balanced situation, they pushed us, we pushed, this part changed. We tried to get back to keeping control after the first few minutes, the decisions of the players were not what we needed to have to be absolutely dominant in the game. We lost some balls and the transitions came to us, it was part of the nervousness we had. We made a mistake and AEK took advantage of it. I didn’t expect him to put pressure on us by creating chances, we had to approach this game with more of a clear mind, take advantage of the situations and win the game.”

For the weakness of the PAOK players at the end: “I don’t think we should talk with these characteristics, we have said that we are not a team created for the championship, we came to the place to have hopes. We lost today, I can go home and sleep in peace, I didn’t see PAOK under the soil pushing too much. There’s nothing else to think about than winning the next match on Wednesday, that’s football. With a finish, AEK reached a goal, we are disappointed because we had chances but we didn’t manage to score.”

For the fact that he watched the game from the official time being suspended and if he thinks he could help PAOK more if he was on the bench: “It wasn’t such a good experience, I was at a point where I understood the way the two teams played, how the game could go. This creates confusion. It’s a free gift to talk when the game is over, the players seeing the coach might have felt differently when we’re all together, we don’t know if that’s an element that would change something in the game.”

As for whether PAOK will approach the game differently in “G. Karaiskakis” taking more risks: “We have a certain style, pressing and creating phases, sometimes we can achieve it, sometimes not, every game is judged by moments. It was decided in the 2′ phase, a goal under conditions, maybe it would have been better for us to start on a different basis. This brought some caution to our players and there were some mistakes. PAOK today did not deserve to lose, we know the situation in the standings, we have to understand what we are doing wrong in order to correct in the next game by evaluating some situations differently. We will prepare for Wednesday’s game the way we want to play. Olympiacos has great quality and will play the way they want, this does not cease to mean that we also want to play our game”

As for whether it keeps anything from the game: “I can’t be satisfied about anything, the team didn’t win, I’m disappointed that we didn’t manage some situations by allowing some mistakes and AEK got the win. It didn’t show the personality of a team that will beat PAOK in Toumba, that disappoints me, we could have avoided this situation”.
