Dabrauskas: “I don’t read the media – Everyone wants the OFI of 1987, but we need time”

by

Statements to the journalists present at OFI’s open training that took place today (5/4), o Valdas Dabrauskas.

The Lithuanian coach emphasized, among other things, that he does not read what the media write, because he wants to be isolated above all, while he noted that it takes time for the Cretans to return to the 1987 era, which is what all the fans of the Heraklion team wish for”.

In detail what he said:

“I can’t say that we were better with PAS than with Levadeiakos, we had good moments in the first half, good moments in the second but we had the pressure to win. We’ve been making progress all this time, you saw that the previous matchday all the teams that were at the bottom of the standings won. Suddenly a doubt enters your own worth, we kept saying it with the players that we have to believe in ourselves and in our own presence, at the end of the day we showed character, we had the concentration that was needed.

If we relaxed a bit, a goal could have come and it’s dangerous. You saw what happened to Olympiacos, they conceded a goal and then failed to win. We scored four goals in Lamia, four in Panaitolikos, scored one in Ioannina and the result is the same: We got three points. Following this we say that we should not look down but only up. We have to finish the year strong, the players are committed and they have realized that

I don’t read the media because I want to be isolated from everything. My wife informed me that OFI had not won at PAS headquarters for 22 years. I understand that OFI fans want to be where the team was in 1987, but this is something that takes time and we don’t have a magic formula. Neither Mr. Bousis, nor Minas Lysandrou, nor me, and we all have to understand something: twice we scored four goals away from home, something that had happened for 20 years, we went to the home of PAOK, OFI had not received a point for 11 years and hasn’t won in 30. We broke that tradition too. In all these 11 years, the smallest defeat suffered by OFI was with three goals conceded. We broke these performances and records.

We have to understand that the club in the last 10 years is not where we all want to be. When you want to go to a house and stay on the 9th floor, this cannot be done from the beginning, you start from the 1st floor and work your way up. This is what we need to do and create expectations. We won some matches and believed that we are at the level of AEK and Aris. We need to present stability and this will be done through the work and progress we must show. Memories are good, this is the history of OFI, but they will not help us now.

This period is not as successful as we would like, we are trying to improve and progress. This year in Heraklion we have scored two goals in just one game, it is an object for pressure and to get better and try. All we can do is promise the world with hard work and daily effort and that we will continually make it better by going up.”
