In a match thriller which was decided in the last possession, the French made an incredible turnaround in the final and with a three-pointer Marcus Keane 12 seconds before the final, they left Germany with the win (76-77)making it 1-0 in the Basketball Champions League quarterfinal series!
The match:
A very good start to the match, with both teams playing aggressively, taking the match to a high tempo. With Marcus Keane in the foreground, Strasbourg took the lead 22-16 at 8′, with Bonn then responding, closing out the quarter with a 9-0 run for them overtaking (25-22).
With baskets by Hawkins and TJ Shorts, the hosts increased the difference at +8 and 32-24 at the beginning of the second period. Gradually, the French “gnawed away” at the difference and with big shots towards the end of the quarter, they closed the first half at -2 for 42-40.
With acquired speed, the guests entered the second half, where with an unanswered streak of 11 points, they took the lead with 60-52 in the 28th minute. However, the three points of Shorts and Herrera in the last minute shaped it 60-58 of the third period.
The derby continued in the last quarter, with the two teams going point by point. One outburst of Bonn but in the middle of the period it was enough for the Germans to escape at +8 (74-66) and embrace the victory three minutes before the end.
