The Greek delegation for the established table tennis tournament Raifeissen Youth Championships 2023 in Austria, April 6-10, in Linz consisted of four elite players, competed as SPA Lykovrisis-Pefkis and combined many strong matches with distinction, as they won two bronze medals in category Under 11 and a gold in Under 13 on the “consolation” board.
11-year-old Giorgos Kouvelas managed to take third place in the singles with great performances. In addition, the same athlete and his peer Dimitris-Marios Alexandridis with amazing matches climbed to the third step of the podium in the Under 11 team.
13-year-old Dimitris Georgallidis and 12-year-old Apostolos Vatsaklis made their own wonderful effort in the team of the next category and reached the first place in the so-called Youth Upper-Austria Challenge Trophy.
Equally important is the valuable experience gained by the talented athletes at the Tips Arena, in fact Kouvelas and Georgallidis had their first appearance in a tournament abroad. Three of the four children belong to the Lykovrysis-Pefkis SPA. Alexandridis plays for Telamos Salaminas and they all had SPALP coach Loukia Giannadakis as their technical guide.
The 22nd Raifeissen Youth Championships had team and individual events for athletes from mini-boys to teenagers (U11, U13, U15, U17, U19) and was rated for the under-13 and under-15 categories. The program started with the team event, which had full classification and went until the last day.
