Torosidis: “Olympiacos is my life, but with Roma I played at the highest level”

For two years the Vassilis Torosidis (2016/18) was competing in her jersey Roma.

The 37-year-old spoke to the Giallorossi’s official website and recalled his time playing for the Italian club. Of course, he also referred to Olympiakos saying that it is his life but with Roma he played at the highest level.

His statements in detail:

Have you missed Roma and the fans?

“I really miss Roma and its wonderful fans. It was the highlight of my three seasons there, which were the best of my career. In addition, I shared the dressing room with true idols such as Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi. I cried a lot when I left to go to Bologna. Even now when I look back I feel so much love and nostalgia for that period of my life.”

How would you rate your move from Roma after Olympiakos?

“Olympiacos is my life and I have always been a fan of the team. However, at Roma I managed to play at the highest level, in Serie A, in the Champions League and in Europa.”

One of those European nights was in Rotterdam in 2015.

“Actually. This away game against Feyenoord was very difficult because of the atmosphere. However, we dug deep and got a win. You need personality and quality if you want to come out victorious from places like this.”

You helped a lot in this win, giving two different assists from the right side.

“Indeed, one of my crosses went high to the far post, while the other was a low ball towards the center of the penalty area, confusing the Feyenoord defence. Liajic and Zervinho got the goals that were vital for us to reach the last 16. When I was playing on the right side, which was my natural position, some things were easier for me.”

Would you like to play under Mourinho?

“Who wouldn’t enjoy that? Jose is a top coach. He has won trophies everywhere he has gone, including Roma where it was not a given. The current team is molded in his image and is a tight unit. It’s solid at the back, a bit like the Rudy Garcia team I played in, especially in my first two seasons. The Olimpico always gives players an extra push and that will happen in the second leg against Feyenoord, when the team will really need the twelfth player.”
