“The PPC Cycling Tour is a milestone for cycling in Greece”

The PPC Cycling Tour of Greece returns with new routes (May 2-6) with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Sports and the Hellenic Cycling Federation, which now has an important “tool” in its effort to spread the sport of cycling in our country.

The statements of the president of the EEA, Vassilis Diamantopoulos regarding this are characteristic:

“In a country like Greece, with such a good climate, one would expect increased use of the bicycle, as a means of exercise as well as transportation. However, this does not happen at all.

The PPC Cycling Tour, with its revival last year and its establishment in international cycling events, opens a new era for the sport. Our goal at the Greek Cycling Federation is to utilize the economic, social and ecological footprint of the event to change the mindset of citizens regarding how they view cycling.”

Mr. Diamantopoulos made a special mention to the Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis who implemented the request of the cycling community for the revival of the Tour and brought it back upgraded as a 2.1 category on the UCI calendar emphasizing the great responsibilities of cycling people to continue inexorably in the same line.

“Since Mr. Avgenakis himself took over the organization, the responsibilities of all of us are even greater. The success and establishment of the Tour is a key priority for all of us who serve the grueling but exciting sport of cycling. I am convinced that with systematic work, more and more people will embrace the event and of course the bike every year!”

It is worth noting that the Cycling Federation will co-organize with the Municipality of Larissa, which participated with great success in last year’s PPC Cycling Tour and its Parallel Events, the 1st Cycling Forum in Larissa, in order to discuss ways to further strengthen the sport and also to establish sustainable mobility in cities through the use of bicycles as a means of transport.
