Last Tuesday saw the completion of the two phases of the Polish table tennis championship, which were divided into one-on-one matches in one round and two groups of the teams going for the title and the teams playing for the preliminaries, and Friday is the start in the playoffs.

There, the eight best teams of the season participate, Bogoria goes to the extra process with third place from the champions group and will give everything for another title in the country, always with the contribution of the top Greek table tennis player.

It should be noted that she is the current Polish champion and the 2022 title was the third she won with Gionis in the lineup. In the first phase of the playoffs, in the quarter-finals, Bogoria faces Olympia Unia Grudiaz and plays the first match away from home. Next Sunday she competes at her “home” and the best of the two matches will advance to the top four.

14 teams take part in the championship and the club from Grodzisk initially took second place after the 13 matches of the “pool”. Continuing in a group of seven teams, which are contending for the championship, it was ranked third in a new “pool” of one round. It collected a total of 38 points and fell behind in a tie with Orlis 1924, the finalist by the way of this year’s Europe Trophy, which lost in the SEF final to Olympiakos.

Last Monday, in the 19th and last game, Bogoria lost 3-1 sets at home to Yaroslavl. Gionis had 1 win and 1 loss from the No. 1 position. He defeated Poland’s Alan Kulzuki in 3-1 sets to clinch the fourth in the match series (and with the classic Polish system at that point, a best-of-three match set) by Iran’s Amirez Abbasi with 2-1 sets.

The top defender, however, is not in the best possible condition because he is dealing with problems in his left shoulder. He helps his team, which does not have a very strong substitute athlete, but he struggles in several movements and these days he also does treatment in Poland. Overall his record so far in the league is 12 wins and 4 losses with an efficiency of 75%.

At the end of the two phases of the championship, Dzialdovo finished on top with 48 points. Bogoria, with third place in the champions’ group, “intersects” with Olympia Unia Grudiaz, which took sixth place. The matches have a high degree of difficulty and it is indicative that both in the first phase and in the second, Bogoria experienced defeat this year (with 3-2 sets both times) regardless of whether they competed without Gionis.

Akademika Zamos also entered the playoffs as the winner of the relegation group.
