Matias Almeida spoke about the exciting title battle in the Super League and refused to comment on what happened after the end of the match, stressing that he is only talking about the competitive part.
What Matias Almeida said in detail at the press conference:
For the victory of AEK: “Before the game I had spoken to my players. I had been informed that in this stadium AEK had won twice in the championship only in the last 20 years. We had to play a game as planned against a big opponent, with the history I recognize. But we came for the win. And we showed it from the first to the last minute. While we were leading 0-1 we wanted to score a second goal. We changed the system compared to that of the Cup, we changed footballers and we had the belief that this team can. I asked my players to enjoy this road and it was a good possibility considering the last 20 years, it was something small for such a big club. The players interpreted it correctly. The opponent equalized due to our mistakes, but I think that in the first half we could have scored more goals.”
About whether the team was in danger: “We try to live football with passion and respect. And we always talk about the competition. We came to win the game. After all that happened, there are the right people to handle this situation. This is outside the boundaries of the coach and the football player. I’m only talking about the competitive part.”
As to whether the match at Leoforo will be the most decisive: “As long as there are mathematical possibilities then everything is open. Obviously this game will be important, but before that we have one more important game. I think that this competition is in favor of the championship. We all want to win it, but I’m glad to be in this competitive league. And let the best one win it, since he will deserve it.”
