THE Panathinaikos “tied” him for one more season Dimitris Andreopoulos!
With their announcement on Monday afternoon (24/04), the volleyball department of the “greens” announced the extension of their cooperation with the 58-year-old coach until the summer of 2024!
Somehow, the experienced technician will complete ten years at the wheel of the “clover”, as a result of which he will become the longest serving coach on the team bench, surpassing him Gerasimos Theodoratos who flourished in the 60s!
Panathinaikos’ announcement in detail:
“The Panathinaikos Athletic Club announces the renewal of its cooperation with the coach of the men’s volleyball team Dimitris Andreopoulos for the 2023-2024 season.
Coach Dimitris Andreopoulos will be on the bench of the “clover” in the new year as well, becoming the longest serving coach of the men’s volleyball team of the Association!
The technician from Corinth will stay for the tenth year in the team of his heart and becomes the coach who has sat the most years in this position in the emblematic division of Panathinaikos A.O.
More specifically, coach Andreopoulos surpassed Gerasimos Theodoratos, who made a mark with his presence on the green bench in the 60s, and thus continues to walk with the Club, continuing to write history.
Although the recommendations are redundant, it is recalled that Dimitris Andreopoulos started his career at Palaimonas Korinthos (1979-1983) and wore the green jersey as an athlete from 1983 to 1999.
From 2000 and for about two years he was an assistant coach at “clover” and from 2002 for another two years he was a coach at the women’s volleyball team of PAO.
He continued at Apollonios in the 2004-2005 season and from 2005 and for about two years he coached the women’s national team.
In 2007 he found him in Lamia where he stayed for six years in the GS men’s team. Lamias while in the 2013-2014 season he was in Finikas Syros.
Since then he came to Panathinaikos and remains until now, while in the three years 2018-2021 he was the coach of the national men’s team”.
His record is rich as as an athlete he counts five championships and two Greek cups while as a coach he has won two Greek championships, three League Cups and one Super Cup.
In a statement on the team’s website, Dimitris Andreopoulos stated: “I have said before that my life is intertwined with Panathinaikos, as I met him as a child as an athlete, and I got to have the honor of being his longest-serving coach.
For me, the Club is my home and the fans of Panathinaikos are my companions in life.
No need for big words for the new year, just hard work. Panathinaikos of the playoffs became Champion and… Panathinaikos and we are all here together a fist in joys and sorrows”.
