THE Arthur Soares Diaselite referee from Portugal, has been appointed to officiate Sunday’s big derby between Panathinaikos and AEK (20:00).
The referee in question was in 2020 in the first semi-final of the Cup between AEK and Aris (2-1), when it was recorded on the score sheet that at half-time someone from AEK who was not named on the score sheet grabbed his assistant by the genitals and he told him “I am the boss”. Soares himself had spoken to the Portuguese press about the incident. “To have someone from a club grab an assistant referee by the genitalia is embarrassing. I had never seen anything like it. It’s not normal. I didn’t want to believe what was happening“, he had mentioned.
The 43-year-old Soares Dias was also a referee in AEK’s great victory-qualification over Wolfsburg in OAKA (2-1) for the Europa League playoffs on October 1, 2020, while on November 21, 2020 he was in the Olympiacos-Panathinaikos derby (1- 0) for the 9th matchday.
The VAR will be his compatriot Thiago Martins and the assistant referees will be Pedro Ribeiro and Paulo Soares, with Angelos Evangelou as the fourth.
The Azeroth Aliyar Agagev will be at PAOK-Ariswhile o Konstantinos Perrakis at Olympiacos-Volos.
