Stoiximan Super League Playouts: Matches that decide the “stay” case

by

In Agrinio, in the match between Panaitolikos and Levadeakos, the interest is largely focused on the 5th matchday of the Stoiximan Super League playoffs.

First of all, Levadeiakos is fighting for its stay, as it is in the last place of the standings, and on the other hand, a victory for the home team will mathematically finalize their stay in the division. However, if Yannis Anastasiou’s team wins, then the Boeotians will be in more trouble for their salvation.

However, the match between Ionikos and PAS Ioannina is also important, since the team from Nice is penultimate and Epirotas are in danger of relegation (even if only mathematically).

The other two matches take place in Tripoli, the local Asteras welcomes Lamia, and Atromitos plays OFI, the two most… quiet teams in this ranking process.

ASTERAS TRIPOLIS – LAMIA

Asteras Tripoli has just two wins in 8 home matches against Lamia. The Arcadia team prevailed in the regular season of this year’s championship with 3-0 and broke a streak of Lamia, which had four visits without defeat at home.

The previous victory of Asteras Tripoli was on October 28, 2019 with 4-1 and this, together with this year’s 3-0 in the regular season, are the only times they prevailed.

A draw, however, is the usual result between them, since in their total of 14 matches in both seats, 7 have ended in draws.

There are two matches between them for the Playouts of the Super League and both have been played with Asteras Tripoli at home. In 2019-20 they drew 1-1 and in 2021-22 Lamia won 2-0.

FEARLESS – OFI

For only the second time in the history of the matches between the two teams, Atromitos managed to prevail in both matches of the championship. The Peristeri team had done this in the 2007-08 season as well, again with a victory first in Peristeri and then in Heraklion.

OFI had managed to score victories in both of them in the 1976-77 season, in their first association in the First National/Super League.

The two teams have met in the last two years in matches for the Playouts and there have been an equal number of draws with 1-1, the first at the home of OFI and last year at the stadium of Atromitos.

This year’s victories for Atromitos came on the back of a six-match home and away unbeaten streak that OFI had created. In these six matches there were four draws and two victories for the Crete team at home.

IONIKOS – YANNINA

The two teams have coexisted in the division for just five seasons despite the significant presence of both in the First National/Super League. This is only the sixth match in which Ionikos will host PAS Ioannina and they remain unbeaten, with two wins and three draws.

In the regular season of the championship, the two teams were tied, both in Nice (2-2) and in the city of Epirus (0-0).

The two victories of Ionikos are 2-0 and both times this happened with double goals by the same players. On September 30, 1990, Kalogeropoulos scored both goals, while on February 8, 2003, both goals were scored by Markomihalis.

The 2-2 draw this season in Nice was the most productive game between the two teams, while until then PAS Ioannina had managed to find the back of the net only once with a goal by Yiannis Tatsis.

PANAITOLIKOS – LEVADEIAKOS

In seven meetings held between the two teams in Agrinio until this year’s championship there was no draw and the 0-0 in the regular season was the first between them there.

The match between them in Boeotia also ended with 0-0, so the two opponents did not score in 180 minutes of their games this year. The last season they met was in 2018-19 with Panaitolikos winning 2-1 at home and Levadeiakos 1-0 at home.

In five of the matches only one of the two opponents has scored and the most popular score is 2-0, with Panaitolikos having two with this score and Levadeiakos one. This season’s 0-0 draw was the only time no goals were scored in a head-to-head match against home team Panaitolikos in all categories. That is, in a total of 19 games for the first and second division.
