The European Football Association of Greece (EPO) issued a statement on the appointment of Greek referees for the match between Aris and AEK for the 8th matchday of the playoffs. In fact, among other things, he adds that he tried to find a referee from another Confederation, that is, outside of Europe, but this effort stopped due to the impossibility of issuing a visa in such a short period of time.

The announcement in detail

Regarding the appointment of Greek referees in the ARIS-AEK match, we announce the following.

1. After the letter of the UEFA president, Mr. Ceferin (Tuesday, May 2), the referee appointed for the match ARIS-AEK canceled his arrival.

2. The German referee appointed for the OLYMPIC-PANTATHENAI match did not cancel his attendance because, after years, he has retired from the UEFA Elite Referee Panel and belongs only to the German Federation.

3. An attempt was made to replace the referee who canceled, but it was fruitless, since no European Elite or A’ UEFA category referee is now accepted to come to Greece.

4. An attempt was made to invite an Elite referee from another Confederation and a referee of this category was found, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed us that it was impossible to issue a visa for this referee at such short notice.

5. We remind everyone that the Ceferin letter is the fault of third parties, not the EPO, and in this letter the effort of the EPO to invite Elite referees is praised and extolled.
