Serelis: “Let’s show a different mentality and show a better face”

On the sidelines of the press conference, his coach Panathinaikou, Christos Serelis, spoke about how the “greens” took advantage of the 15 days of inactivity, while, at the same time, he emphasized that in the series with Peristeri bwin, the “clover” must show different mentality, but also a better face.

In detail what Christos Serelis said:

“We think we have around 15 days working as a team. We are doing the training sessions that we needed after the change of technical leadership. A player who was very important in the attack also left. We are trying to fill the gap with more work defensively, toughness and running. We will try to put on a better face, to be as we should be, in the semi-final – initially – series”.

On whether he prefers Vassilis Spanoulis as an opponent as a player or as a coach: “I haven’t played against him as a player. Just kidding… We’re talking about Spanoulis, a legend in world basketball as a player. He is and will become a very good coach, he has all the qualities. All the coaches respect each of our opponents and prepare our team in the best possible way.”

On what he wants different from his team in the final stretch of the championship: “It has nothing to do with the racing part. The team must show a different mentality, to have the right face competitively. We’ve all been working on this piece for the past two months. If we play with the right mentality, I believe we will have a chance to achieve something very good.”

On whether there is failure for Panathinaikos if they do not win the championship: “I can’t help but agree with what coach Bartzokas said in the same question. Panathinaikos has not played good basketball this year, it has not been attractive. Even if he takes the championship, which will be celebrated, it does not mean that the year was not problematic. The problems must be solved for the team to do even better in the coming years. Obviously, everything is judged in the end. But we must never forget what happens during the year and improve the image of our teams.”

For the change in format in the Basket League, the increase in games and the strain on the players: “For the league it is a positive development. The Greek championship ends very early. I am well aware that there are teams whose good players did not come to Greece between February and March, because a month later the league would end. This change will also bring better players. Of course, the teams with a European course will be burdened. As you heard from players earlier, players want to play games. Only I was happy that we had 15 training days. If they have more training they complain, now they will have more games.”
