The coach of Psychikos, Giorgos Remendelas, described the Final 4 of the Elite League as unfair since he believes that he did not do justice to the best team of the season in the division. On the contrary, after the minor final, the coach of Panerythraikos, Dimitris Houchoulis, made it known that a team from the Basket League asked about a player of his team (the information is about Konstantinos Efstratiou), while he announced that the management had given an order to renew his contract Ilias Moraitis, who injured his knee and rather seriously in the semi-final.
Giorgos Remendelas (Psychikos coach): “I tried to convey to the players the necessity to operate professionally for the last time in the season and do our duty. I want to express the love and pride for my athletes, even though during the year I didn’t treat them very well, to joke a little. I want to thank everyone who contributed during the year. The disappointment is great, but we happened to fall into a system of conduct that is unprecedented and unfair in my opinion. I believe we have the best team in the division and this system didn’t allow us to show it. From these situations, the person, coach or athlete, learns. We must steel ourselves and carry on. Congratulations to the promoted teams. Life goes on”.
Fotis Malelis (Psychikos player): “It was not what we wanted and dreamed of, since promotion was the goal. But since we lost in the semi-final, for all the effort we put in during the season we had to fight for the best possible position. Congratulations to all members of the team for an outstanding effort throughout the season, as well as to Panerythraikos for the year they have had. Having the third place there is always the dream of A1, you have some small chances”.
Dimitris Houchoulis (Panerythraikos coach): “Only pride for Panerythraikos. The club submitted a different proposal to Greek basketball. The Final 4 was not an end in itself for us, but to highlight many new kids. We did this and I am happy because the project that Panerythraikos represents. Today he received a call from A1 team asking about a player in our team. This is a big issue for Panerythraikos. The effort will continue on this project. We may be given another chance and this time we can succeed. I am proud of the players and I want to believe that we put a stone in his career. Yesterday we had an unfortunate incident with the injury of Ilias Moraitis. We hope that the tests will not show anything serious, although the first assessments are not very encouraging, but by order of the president the player has been renewed for the next year. This is the Pan-Erythraikos, this is the management of the Pan-Erythraikos, to stand by the athletes. I thank the management of the EEC for making an unprecedented event for Greek data and I hope that next year it will be even better. The teams, all of them, not only those who went to the Final 4, gave their best for an exciting championship that won the interest of the world.”
Tasos Kallianiotis (Panerythraikos player): “The first goal for us was not promotion, the goal was another. Let the young kids play and be the star. Making it to the Final 4 was no small feat. When you get here, you want to go as high as you can. We didn’t make it, but we are happy and proud of the team’s performance and that we brought so many people to the field. We hope this will continue in the years to come.”
