“He was coming to beat us by himself”: With Jovanovic, the rest of Demi’s opponents’ eleven

by

The top eleven players he faced in Greece was completed by Demis Nikolaidis through his personal Instagram account.

It is recalled that, in his previous video, the AEK legend had chosen for the goal Vancik and for their defense Setaridis, Kyriako, Burning and Georgato. So he completed his eleven with them Jovanovic and Karapiali in the central midfielders, the Djordjevic left, the George H. Georgiadis right and them Jared and Lymberopoulos as a duo in attack.

The first name that came to me for midfielders was that of Karapialis. In the first 2-3 years in New Philadelphia when we beat Olympiakos, his players were bullied. Except for Karapialis, who was… furious. Apart from the great talent and class he had, he was the one who would tackle first of all. I felt that Karapialis was coming to beat us by himself.

This is how I select the midfielders for the eleven. Which player was going to win on their own, not necessarily who was the greatest. And the second midfielder was Jovanovic of Herakles. He was carrying all of Hercules. He could win the match with one ball, one dribble, one foul.

Two years passed with Olympiakos and … Karapialis’ place was taken by Djordjevic. He was the player you felt the most in the derby, of the biggest players I’ve seen play at Olympiakos. Most of Olympiakos’ victories against us had Djordjevic as the protagonist.

I will put Giorgos X. Georgiadis on the other side as midfielders. I also remember him changing the game with PAOK and Panathinaikos. He had tremendous dribbling, passion in his game and a winning mentality. And Giannakopoulos did the same, but maybe I have Georgiadis in my mind to make more good games. Basinas, Karagounis and Kafes have played with me at that time, Karebe has also moved from Olympiakos. Amazing footballers, whom I want to mention. I also have a bench.

In the forwards I have Konstantinou, Ivic, Lymberopoulos, Vazeha and Giovanni. I will put Vazeha, the man who was “stealing”, I wanted to copy him in his movements. He was a spinner and he shot both right and left, which I could do as well. We had the same style. And the other is Lymberopoulos. Despite his height, he was an excellent craftsman. There were not many football players tall and with technical training at that time. He had dribbling, he had technique, he was very strong“, he noted among other things.
