Alkistis Benekou, Ioli Benekou and Eleni Sotireli will remain in the National Team for the new season. The Blue and Whites announced on Wednesday the renewal of their partnership with the three international superstars of Greece on their roster to help them excel in domestic and European women’s polo events next season.
The announcement about the Benekou sisters:
“For the third consecutive season, Alcistis Benekou and Ioli Benekou will continue to wear the blue and white cap, being an important part of the defense and attack for the National Piraeus and Stefanos Leandros, ‘shaking hands’ with the department’s administrative officers for the 2023-2024 season!
National Piraeus and the women’s water polo department are happy to announce the extension of their cooperation with athletes Alcisti Benekou and Ioli Benekou for another competitive season!
Counting now three consecutive years in the ranks of the ‘blue and white’ and, having contributed the most to the course of National Piraeus in Greece and Europe, culminating in the conquest of the 2022 LEN Trophy and the third place in the A1 women’s championship a few weeks ago, the Benekou sisters will continue to wear the caps with 8 and 11 respectively, aiming even higher in the new year!
The “pillar” of the blue-and-white attack at 2 meters and the consistently effective in defense are now important ‘pieces’ of National Piraeus and ‘tools’ for Stefanos Leandros, agreeing with the administrative officers of the department for another season and being the first step of renewals in the women’s team, as part of planning for the new season.

“The captain, Eleni Sotireli, continues in the “blue and white” for the sixth consecutive season.
Piraeus National and the women’s water polo department are very happy to announce the renewal of their cooperation with the captain, Eleni Sotireli.
The international goalkeeper continues with the blue and white cap for the sixth consecutive year and will defend the home of Ethnikos Piraeus in the domestic competitions, but also in the LEN Champions League of the next season.
Born on 14/4/1998, Eleni Sotireli started from the academies of Iraklis and, subsequently, came to Athens for ANO Glyfadas, while she followed her successful passage for two seasons from the Italian championship on behalf of Cozentsa and Messina.
Later, Eleni Sotireli came to National Piraeus and is now an integral member of the Group’s family, continuing in the “blue and white”, despite the many “bumps” she received.
With the National team, Eleni Sotireli has recorded significant successes with medals in the small Nationals, while in the summer of 2022 she was named European runner-up with the Women’s National team at the European Championship in Split.
