New contract with Panionio signed by Dimitris Verginis. The 36-year-old guard, captain of the team, led the Neosmyrnios in the promotion process from the Second National League to the Errikos Dunan Elite League, as well as in the conquest of the UNICEF Trophy, which brought the “blue and red” to the Final 8 of the Cup.

The captain of the double, Dimitris Verginis, will compete in PANIONIO in the 2023-2024 season.
After a dream year, with the conquest of the UNICEF TROPHY and the championship in the Second National League, the captain of PANIONIO will lead the effort in the demanding season in the Elite League, Errikos Dunan.
Dimitris Verginis was born in Thessaloniki on May 15, 1987. He started playing basketball in Asteria Panorama and Anatolia and then played in: PAOK, Panathinaikos, Ari (twice), Bilbao, Lukoil Academic, PANIONIO (2014-2015 and 2019 -2020), Apollona Patras, Lavrio, Iraklis and Karditsa (with which he celebrated promotion to the Basket League).
In the 2022-2023 season and in 22 league games (about 26 minutes of participation per game) he was the team’s top scorer (18 points on average) and also first in three-point shooting percentage (43%), free throws (86.8 %), assists (5), steals (1.4) and accurate three-pointers (58).
In the institution of the Cup, in 5 games he had an average of 20.6 points (52% on two-pointers and 52% on three-pointers) while he had the amazing number of 25/25 shots! He also had 4.4 assists and 3 rebounds in about 30 minutes of action.
He has also won the Euroleague in 2009 as well as two championships (2009 and 2010) and a Greek Cup (2010) with Panathinaikos.
