Simmons: “We look forward to the Atromitos challenge”

by

Chris Coleman’s assistant, Keith Simmons, gave his first interview to atromitosfc.gr, talking about the reasons that made him and Wales say “yes” to Atromitos, stressing that with the proposal, to think about it a lot.

At the same time, he spoke about the Welsh national team, in which he is still a key member of the technical team, while he also sent his message for hard work.

Detailed what he said

Mr. Simmons, welcome to Greece and welcome to Atromitos! What are your first impressions from these hours you are in our country?

“First of all, everyone here is very friendly. We understand that we have a great job in our hands and we look forward to completing it. ”

What were your first thoughts when Mr. Coleman called you to inform you about this Atromitos proposal, as with these difficult conditions that have been formed, this is a special challenge.

“It simply came to our notice then. We talked over the weekend and on Sunday night we were here. It was very fast. Chris has worked in Greece in the past and enjoyed his presence working in Greece. It has a long history with Atromitos. He directly liked the opportunity and saw it as a great honor for him to work at Atromitos. When he told me, I said “yes” directly. We know it’s a challenge, but we took the opportunity because the team is not doing so well. This is normal in football, to be offered an opportunity when things are not going so well. Come and change some things. “Chris and I do not mind fighting, we do not mind entering the process of a difficult challenge and we really look forward to it.”

You have been with Mr. Coleman for many years. Is it one of the hardest jobs you have ever taken on?

“It’s one of them. It is definitely a challenge and we have done it in the past. We went to Sunderland, which was in last place in the standings. We accepted the challenge, we liked it. We know it’s not easy, but we do not care how hard we work. We will work with all the people in the team. “We are optimistic that we can turn things around together, as long as we all work together.”

From the moment Chris Coleman was announced, the team has been well-received by Welsh fans. Tell us your experience from the great successes you have with Wales, with which you continue.

“In the beginning the experience with Wales was terrible for both me and Chris. We undertook in very difficult conditions and the first results did not go well. We had to work very hard with the whole staff and the players, to bring these successes to the semifinals of Euro 2016. A lot of hard work was done and there were many challenges before we even reached this level. I still continue to work in Wales, we still had some success in the last Euro. Now we aim to qualify for the next World Cup. The Welsh national team is at a very good level and Christian and I had some very good moments. Now we aim to live fantastic moments with Atromitos as well “.

How did you experience the Netflix documentary and being monitored by a camera 24 hours a day? It’s not something we are used to here in Greece…

“It’s something we’re not used to in England or Wales either! We signed the contracts and as soon as we put our signatures, they told us: “And not to forget, we are making a documentary”. Yes, it was quite intrusive and obviously no coach would choose to do it. However, it was okay, as the production people were very good and they realized how difficult it was. It was an experience. To be honest Chris and I never saw the first round, but I saw the second and it was very good. “But I did not want to see myself on TV, but people told me it was good.”
