Sporar: “Perhaps the new year will be sweeter for Panathinaikos – Madness in the derby with Olympiakos”

by

An interview in Slovenia was granted by Andraz Sporar in which he referred to his great battle Panathinaikou with AEK for winning the title and its painful loss, in the end…

At the same time, speaking to the newspaper “Slovenske Novice“, the Slovenian striker of the “greens” spoke of… craze about what usually happens in the derby with Olympiakoswhile he stated satisfied from personal of performance!

What Sporar said in detail:

For his first season with Panathinaikos: “I had a very successful season at Panathinaikos, my first in Greece. I was the top scorer in the team, 14 goals is a very good number for a first year. We fought until the end for the championship and it was the first time in a while that the club came so close. We were ahead all season, there was a euphoria. In the playoffs, however, we missed a few points and lost some of our luck. AEK was a worthy first place. If we draw a line, we achieved a good result with second place and qualification for the Champions League. Of course, there is bitterness about the fact that we are not champions after spending nine months in first place. But that’s how football is, maybe next year will be sweeter.”

For the fact that Panathinaikos finished higher in the standings than Olympiacos: “If you asked the fans before the season what they want, probably everyone would answer that we should be ahead of Olympiakos. But when we went on a long winning streak, the desire for the trophy grew. Every game, indoors or outdoors, was sold-out. Every away match had our people in the stands. The euphoria was really great and I believe that the same will be true next year.”

For the derby against the eternal rival: “It’s hard to describe them. I suggest you go and see Olympiacos-Panathinaikos up close. The first word that comes to mind is “crazy”. You have to see it and experience it. You can’t listen to one meter when you’re on the pitch. The decibels are incredible. When you’re not playing outside, you feel like everyone hates you to the core.”
